In these highly divisive times, art can serve as a meeting ground for all segments of society. Music brings people together for a shared experience in which both the musician and the audience are transformed. We believe that the effects of music can be further expanded to create a more equitable and just society as well.

The Los Angeles International Music and Arts Academy (LAIMA)  was established in 2015 with the intent of spreading international music education to the Los Angeles population and beyond.

The academy’s founder, Rajib Karmakar is a sitarist of international repute and moved to Los Angeles in 2013 with the vision of creating a scenario  where all people irrespective of where they came from would learn, teach and make art together and within these years the academy emerged as a strong community and family with a great potential. Since 2016 the academy has been hosting various concerts, workshops and retreats. In 2020 it was time for this family  to take the next step and create the LAIMA Foundation as a 501(c)(3) non -profit organization to spread this sense of community through accessible music education and events for every type of community, but by also partnering with local nonprofits dedicated to making Los Angeles a great equitable place to live.
